SIGNED Orrefors Landberg art glass smoking set

I haven't ranted about sets in any recent listing, so it's time I did. It's a simple idea - a set of matching pieces is inherently more beautiful and much harder to find than a single piece. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Most people buy glass because it's beautiful and to make their homes and offices look beautiful. If you display a set, it is inevitably more attractive than a single piece of the same type, and usually more attractive than a collection of unmatched pieces. When I display glass, and I assume I'm not alone here, I want it to look good as a collection, and make some sort of coherent statement. I don't want it to say, "this person bought pieces of glass at random which were all beautiful on their own but don't look any good together."

See our collection of green Lindstrand vases as an example: great on their own, but just stunning as a set.

We've sold quite a few Murano ashtray, cigarette holder and lighter sets, but we've never had one like this.  It's crystal, made in moulds and designed to look like cut crystal.  It's made by Orrefors, the famous Swedish glassmakers, and signed on the base. The 'N' means it was designed by Nils Landberg. Nils Landberg (1907-1991) worked for Orrefors, for 45 years. Landberg won the gold medal at the 1957 Milan Triennale for his tulip vases.

The crystal is superbly clear - a hallmark of Scandinavian glass. It is a beautiful set in very good condition.
