Signed 1959 Vicke Lindstrand vase #1 for Kosta

When we first set up the website, nearly two years ago, Glen, who was working with us at the time, listed quite a lot of glass with just pictures and weights.  The pictures were from Pernilla's old camera, and weren't very good.  The intention was for someone to add some more words and for Pernilla to update the photos.  It's finally happening, but rather than leave the listings at the back of the website where no-one ever goes (even though there are bargains to be found there), I'm moving some of them, such as this one, to the front.  I'll leave it at the same price, despite two years of rising glass prices.

We have two of these Lindstrand "wine glass" vases, this one is pale blue and another that I'll add shortly in clear.  The second picture shows the two together.

The feature of this vase is that it's in the shape of a big wine glass but with a hollow base that was created by blowing a separate bubble and joining it at the narrow point, then cutting off the end to form a flat base.  It's for this sort of process that glassmakers work in teams (much more than most other types of art) .  You can't have one person blowing and joining two bubbles of glass.  If he stopped turning one pipe, the hot glass would collapse.  This piece was shown in the 1959 Kosta catalogue.
