Pair of 1960s labelled Josef Schott footed vases for Smalandshyttan
This is a rarity. Smalandshyttan glassworks was one of the less famous firms in the province of Smaland, the glassmaking centre of Sweden. Reference books on the firm are non-existent, so we don't know too much about it. Its main designer, around 1960, when these were made, was Josef Schott, and the company thought well enough of him to put his name on a label on his designs. The company's work wasn't signed, so much of its output became anonymous once the labels were removed. These two are both labelled.
These footed vases are interesting. Vicke Lindstrand did a sommerso vase around the same time which is the only similar design I can recall (see for example, http://www.modernistglass.com/glasspieces/view/1964). Schott's version is bigger and rounder and has a distinctive mouth.
