1960 decanter and ashtray for Aseda

The decanter is shown in Pina & Vigier's book "Fire & Sea: Scandinavian Glass 1930-2000" on p73. They describe it as a Bo Borgstrom design but I have it on good authority that this is incorrect. Borgstrom designs are signed with a B and a number. Other designs were only stickered. An Aseda catalogue we have seen from the time shows other designs as being by Borgstrom but this decanter is unattributed.

However, an alert and knowledgable reader, Carola, tells us that the decanter is a variation of a vase designed by and named after Börne Augustsson. The design was also made as a lampbase and was named Conrad after the man that turned the design into the lamps. She says these lamps were manufactured at the Sölvehyttan Glass company.

Anyway... Pina and Vigier value the decanter at US$100-125. Our set - two pieces for US$105 - is a bargain.

Height: 18 (23cm with stopper)

Stickered "ASEDA SWEDEN"

Condition: very little wear on the sticker, light wear to the base, remains of a pontil mark underneath, a 1.2 x 0.3cm unintended bubble on top

Ashtray:
Height: 6cm
Width: 16cm
Weight: 1.2kg

Condition: light wear to the base, a 4x5mm chip or possibly a repair on the side with another 2mm burst bubble (see picture), a couple of unintended bubbles, some scratches inside
