LINDSTRAND 50s Kosta vintage art glass bowl
We love the work of Vicke Lindstrand. This is a particularly nice example - the lines on it are so regular and fine. The point where the various spirals meet in the middle of the base is covered by a dot of purple glass. The shape of the vase is just perfect. It has good weight and the base is double ground, which we always take as a sign of a workshop with high standards. By "double ground", I mean that once the pontil iron on which the glass was worked has been broken off, the base has been ground flat, then any remaining mark in the centre has been ground concave. This also reduces wear scratching on the base. Both are then polished, before the signature is added in the middle.
This piece is also in excellent condition. In recent times someone has put little plastic dots on the base to protect it.
