Signed 1967 Spontana Johansfors Orup art glass vase
This is a sommerso vase. The round bubble of coloured glass (turquoise, blue and green) that you can see in the bottom of the vase was originally the top of the glassblower's bubble. They've somehow created a fine layer of tiny bubbles on the outside of that big bubble. It's then been dunked in crystal repeatedly to give it the heavy casing. Then the pontil iron has been transferred to the base and the thick, smooth round mouth of the vase has been formed.
The pontil iron has been removed and the base has been cut and polished smooth. The centre of the base is concave. This is where the glass maker has etched "Johansfors Orup". There is also an original foil sticker - "Johansfors Sweden".
It was designed by Bengt Orup for Johansfors in 1967 as part of the "Spontana" series ("spontaneous" in English).
Johansfors was a Swedish glass manufacturer. Bengt Orup was the designer from 1952 to 1972.
