FM Konstglass Ronneby art glass whale paperweight
For most of the glass we list, we understand how it was made, but this one has us stumped. It looks like a whale with a transparent outer layer to reveal the internal organs. It's very cool, and we've finally managed to take photos that should allow you to appreciate it. This is the bigger of 2 FM Konstglass whales. (See also http://www.modernistglass.com/glasspieces/view/1955).
They should be bought as a set! The last pic shows the two together. "FM" stands for "Fare Marcolin" - in Swedish, "made by Marcolin". The Marcolin brothers were trained in glassmaking on Murano, went to Sweden, the other leading centre of glassmaking in the middle of last century, and set up their own business. They closed it down early in the 90s. If I remember correctly, one of them is now making glass in Sardinia.
