Documented 7.1kg Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte Biennale vase
The last picture shows a purple version of this piece in the book, Murano, Island of Glass, by Attilia Dorigato, and identifies it as a 1954 design. It was displayed at the 1956 Venice Biennale.
This is the first time we've managed to get hold of a really big, documented Seguso Vetri d'Arte sommerso vase designed by Flavio Poli. Think about all the junk on the internet auction sites that claims to be Poli. Simple but beautiful sommerso vases have an immediate appeal to modern collectors. Here's the real thing. It's bound to be a good investment.
Our theory is that in this complex world, simple and beautiful is the way to simplify your life. The Scandinavian glass designers, and Poli in particular amongst the Italians, created unfussy, unadorned, minimalist designs that are still amongst the most popular styles of vintage glass we sell, 50 years later. Not only is it a documented Poli design, at 7.1kg it's huge!
We bought this from a selection of Seguso pieces which was offered to us at the same time that we bought a Poli sculpture with a proprietary Seguso Vetri d'Arte label from the 1960s.)
