Signed Barbini 1970s corroso art glass vase
This is an outstanding Barbini vase. It's signed on the base - Barbini Murano. This type of signature was used in the 1970s (see Marc Heiremans, Murano Glass. In the 80s, pieces were signed "A. Barbini", and more modern pieces are signed on the side rather than the base.)
The green stars in the applied decorative pseudo-handles are set off beautifully by the dark red, which itself fades to a yellowy orange. The outside has been treated with acid to give it an irregular roughened effect known as corroso. The handles have been added after this process.
