Inebriated king - HOLMEGAARD pinched, leaning 'kuttrolf' decanter with crown stopper
Here's drunken royalty - the combination of the "drunken" shape and the crown stopper are relatively hard to find. The pinched "kuttrolf" decanter is a traditional design at both Kastrup and Holmegaard, (Holmegaard eventually owned Kastrup). It's not clear to us whether a particular designer lays claim to the drunken version, but we suspect not. The crown is seen in painted kuttrolf decanters designed by Jacob Bang, in the 1930s, but we suspect the original designer of the crown is also lost in the mists of the past.
Aside from the interesting shape, these are easy to hold and pour from. They look particularly good filled or half-filled with amber liquid - brandy, whisky or port, for example. We have a set of the non-drunken version for our own use.
They are also known colloquially as cluck cluck decanters (or kluck kluck or kluk kluk and no doubt other spellings) for the noise they make when pouring.
