Sparkling vintage Murano aventurine art glass bowl, attributed to Fratelli Toso

Much of the beauty of art glass derives from what happens when light shines on the glass. In this case heavy copper aventurine has been laid on the palest green glass before being further worked and coated with another layer of clear glass. The six clear lobes of clear glass underneath give shape, strength and another way to scatter the light. It has a smooth ground and polished base. Enlarge the pictures and you'll see what I mean. This is a must-have for collectors of Murano glass. Like all of the pieces with metal powder and foil in them, this is more beautiful than we can capture in a photo. Light makes glass beautiful but the camera often can't handle it. Put this on a coffee table and at night if there is any light on it the piece sparkles like crazy.
