4.6kg labelled Seguso Vetri d'Arte Murano a scavo vase with deer
This is a wild piece from Seguso Vetri d'Arte. Huge and complex - I've never seen anything like it. They really went for the doctor on this one. It's nominally a vase but it has a 4-horned deer/antelope kneeling on the front, and a sort of handle/neck arrangement involving the deer. It looks as if it could be some sort of graven image used by deer god worshippers. The whole thing is treated by the "a scavo" process** which reinforces the idea that it might have been rescued from an Etruscan archeological dig. I LIKE it.
It has a label that we believe was used in the 1980s or early 1990s.
**The "a scavo" process is where a corrosive chemical is added to the surface of a hot glass while cooling to give the surface a rougher matt finish.
