Massive 4.4kg Kotic Skrdlovice vase
This is a monster piece of glass - 4.4kg (over 9lb). It's made with the sommerso technique (a mauve layer under pale blue glass) but the real beauty of the piece lies in the thick creases and puckers of the surface. A lot of the beauty of glass lies in what happens when light passes through a curved piece of glass, and is bent or "refracted". The thicker the glass, the more interesting is this effect. The trick is to create a piece with a shape that looks good, like this one, and which also refracts the light, then to execute it well (which is requires considerable skill and strength with a big piece on the end of a blowpipe). Work of this weight and quality is hard to find. This is good art.
This one has plenty of age wear on the base - the random scratches that come from being moved around on furniture thousands of times over the decades. This and the colour of the glass, suggests to us that it is is a 1970s piece.
Height: 25cm (9.75 inches)
Condition: Great. Normal wear to the base and a handful of light scuffs around the outside, a small amount of scratches and a couple of impact marks near the base.
