24 facet, Murano mid-century facet-cut double-sommerso ashtray
Facet-cut sommerso vases, bowls and ashtrays have been popular and successful Murano products since the middle of last century. There is a lot of work and skill in cutting the facets, and making a double sommerso bowl is also not a simple thing. In general, it's fair to say that the older pieces have more facets partly because of changes in fashion (in particular, in the 1970s and 80s, a simpler rectangular style was in vogue) and partly due to the labour involved in more facets. This one has 24 facets! That's why we think this very attractive diamond cut piece is likely to be from the 1960s.
This piece also has ground and polished cigarette rests.
