Signed and stickered iittala sommerso vase

This piece has me confused. It is clearly a vase Lappi, model 3654, designed by Erkki Vesanto in 1958 and made till 1968. So why is it signed "Tapio Wirkkala 3684"? The number is probably a misreading of 3654, but the Wirkkala signature is clear. We may have been sold a pup. Or perhaps Versanto shared the design credits on this one with Wirkkala. We'll investigate further. In the meantime, we'll leave it on the site, but unless you know more than us, I suggest you buy something else.

Vesanto was Iittala's only full-time designer when he started in 1936, but after Wirkkala and Sarpaneva came onto the scene, his role became mainly one of liaison between the superstar designers and the factory, and production supervisor.

Condition: Near mint. Very light wear to base and sticker, a few marks from manufacture underneath (the longest 3mm)
