This is alexandrite glass.  That means that it contains an expensive rare earth binary compound called neodymiumoxide (Nd2O3) which makes it show two colours depending on the light.  Glass which does this is called dichroic or dichromatic.  It appears pale blue-violet under fluorescent lighting (see the base of the first picture) and cranberry-pink in natural sunlight or incandescent illumination (second and third pictures).  It's most obvious in the base, although the outer alexandrite layer probably goes up the side of the vase too.

There's not a lot of alexandrite glass around, and a lot of what is seen is not to our taste, so it's good to find a quality art glass vase in neodymium.

This label-less vase was sold as Murano, as many wrongly identified vases are, but we had picked it as Czech.  The distinctive shape of the rim is a recurring feature of many of Miloslav Klinger's designs and will have been produced at Zelazny Brod.  Three variations are shown in Mark Hill's excellent book, Hi Sklo Lo Sklo.
