1980s Kosta Boda art glass vase
BUYER COMMENT: "Vase received. Excellent. Many thanks."
The distinctive black and white striped murrine shown in the second picture tells us that this unsigned vase is from Kosta Boda in the 1980s. Bertil Vallien used the same murrines in some of his 1987 designs, as shown in Scandinavian Glass: Fire & Sea, by Pina and Vigier, p69. Vallien is certainly the designer of this vase too, ;but because it's unsigned, it's a bargain price. The last photo shows a pictue of a signed Vallien bottle with the same black and white and yellow murrines and similar pattern. (As an aside, in general, we prefer vases to bottles. Vases are a more accepted art form.)
You can see from the photos of the vase that this is a a complex piece, full of texture and colour and chaos at the base but moving towards more simplicity higher up the vase, and finally a simple layer at the top.
