Signed Per Lutken Holmegaard art glass drop vase
These are a favourite of ours. Simple and beautiful, and more perfectly rounded than similar vases by other manufacturers . We put this down to the process of blowing the glass that Lutken and his glass-blowers developed, inserting a wet wooden pin into the gather of glass so that the steam from the wood blew the bubble. (Compare, for example with Huge signed, labelled 1950s Bengt Orup vase for Johansfors which is also beautiful, and big and rare but which has been shaped by human hands).
This was designed in the 1950s or early 60s. Holmegaard seem to have changed from a system of dating their pieces to 5-digit numbers with no date about 1963 which makes this vase post-1962. The first digit of the code on this piece might be a "4" or a "1" or a "7". Look at the picture and judge for yourself. Our vote goes to "1".
I like the way the colour graduates from pale green in the middle to dark green around the outside. This is simply because we're looking through a greater thickness of glass around the outside, so the colour is denser there.
