Signed 1950s Ernest Gordon sommerso vase with complex patterns of tiny bubbles for Boda
This was designed by Englishman Ernest Gordon in the 1950s while working for Swedish firm Boda. It's very collectible for a number of reasons. First, no-one had done anything like it before this. Second, it's a very complex and difficult piece to make, and few have attempted anything like it since. The different patterns of tiny bubbles will have been produced in layers, one on top of the other. Third, and arguably most importantly, it's very beautiful. Fourth, pieces of this quality by Gordon are very hard to find. And lastly, of course, it's over 50 years old - it's now a design which has stood the test of time, making it a much safer bet as an investment than, for example, the work of a new artist. It's another good example of what a bargain vintage art glass is.
