Monster signed 26cm Holmegaard Per Lutken drop vase
At 10.25 inches and nearly 3kg, this is the biggest size we've seen in this Lutken drop vase. These vases are so big and round and imposing; more than any other vase design I've seen, they have a huge volume for their height.
The secret, as with many of Per Lutken's Holmegaard designs, is the way they were made, using steam from a wet wooden pin, inserted in the gather of glass to blow the bubble. I suspect that a glassblower using a pipe couldn't match the perfection of this shape.
The blue in this piece is the same density throughout, but always looks darker at the edges because, obviously, at the edges you are looking through a greater thickness of glass, because of the curve of the design. To me, the difference in the shades of blue adds to the beauty of the piece.
We have some smaller examples of this colour and shape which are sitting in our own collection at present, but might also be available for sale, if someone was keen to own a set, and if my wife doesn't find out what I'm up to.
The last picture shows a six inch green version, which we also have in stock.
