Signed Ann Warff 1970s Kosta 'crystal rock' paperweight
This piece is from the 1970s. It takes an idea used in other Warff pieces (the polished window that allows us to peek into this piece is also seen in http://www.modernistglass.com/glasspieces/view/2398 and others) and gives it a smart new twist.
As you'll see from the pictures, this paperweight is designed to look like a rock and to be viewed through the cut side, as if it was a quartz crystal with a "window" cut and polished smooth so that you can see inside the rock. Clever design. Within the glass are layers and swirls of brown and pink.
Ann Warff was one half of the design team (with husband Goran Warff) that won the Lunning Prize for Scandinavian design in 1968. Ann Warff worked at Kosta from 1964 to 1978. She and Goran Warff divorced in 1972.
We don't see as much of her solo work as that of her ex-husband but, as this piece shows, she is worth collecting.
