Signed 1960s Nils Landberg Orrefors sommerso vase 2
Here's the second of two Landberg sommerso vases. They're made in the sommerso technique, developed in Italy and meaning "submerged" in Italian. (In English this is generally described as "underlay" which sounds like carpet, so I prefer the term "sommerso".) The Swedes in the mid-20th century used this technique to make elegant, bold pieces with masses of clear crystal. The last photos show the two pieces together. In our view, sets like this almost always display better than single pieces or a collection of unrelated pieces. Much of our buying aims to create sets for our customers.
Height: 16 cm (6.25 inches)
Width: 9 cm
Weight: 1570 g
Engraved "Orrefors Nu 3953/2" to the base
Condition: heavy wear to the base, quite a lot of scratching and scuffs to the exterior (can be seen in the pictures, eg. click on the second picture to enlarge it). The price of this piece is reduced from $150 on account of the scratches.
