Signed Vicke Lindstrand 1950s Kosta Arabesk vase
I hope you can see how the white threads of glass almost double back on themselves in a way that I've never seen in any other design. The lines are likely to have been applied as canes of glass with 8 threads per cane. The heated canes are applied to an initial blown bubble of glass, then more clear crystal is put on top. But if the clear crystal is put on top, how do they get the threads to curve in and out, as in the nearest lines in the first picture? This is clever and meticulous glassmaking.
'Arabesk' is a ballet move but perhaps Lindstrand was thinking of the complex patterns in arabesk patterns and architecture when he named this series.
The second picture shows the vase listed at http://www.modernistglass.com/glasspieces/view/2564 and bowl together.
