This was designed in 1948 and was shown in the next Orrefors catalogue, in 1954 (see last picture).  It's another rare and special piece.  It has a striking, off-centre, slanted lip, like a hat brim.

Alain de Botton, in his book, The Architecture of Happiness, suggests that we look for human and animal figures in sculpture, furniture, buildings, and other works.  It doesn't take much for us to interpret an object as a human or animal figure.  He says that "our reasons for liking abstract sculptures ... are not in the end so far removed from our reasons for honouring representational (i.e. non-abstract) scenes.  We call works in both genres beautiful when they succeed in evoking what seem to us the most attractive, significant attributes of human beings and animals."

The most inspired designs, it seems to me, are those which evoke those attributes with the least effort, as is the case in this piece.  The addition of a cleverly angled lip gives it the look of a rakishly-angled stylish mid-century hat and turns the vase into a human figure (see the Bogart and Hepburn photo).

Ingeborg Lundin was the first woman designer at Orrefors, joining a team of famous men who were still doing fine work, but had been there for a long time. We like her designs, which added a new dimension to the Orrefors catalogues.  See also:
