Large Fratelli Toso bowl with copper aventurine and feathered pattern

It's not exactly 'modernist', but this is a very fine piece of its type and very good value at this price. It's an example of the best of more traditional Murano mid-century design - swirling patterns of canes. feathering, and scalloped edges. We learned to love Murano firm Fratelli Toso courtesy of our good friend and former business partner, Glen Rossiter, who is a big fan of their work, so we know a good one when we see it.

The 'feathered' effect comes from running a tool through the pattern of swirled canes of glass, so that each line of cane run into the next. I understand cake decorators do much the same thing. The scalloped edge will have been created with a mould.

The piece is cased with lattimo (milk) glass and clear glass. There is a great deal of work and skill in the piece, and the design is bold and colourful. Note the copper shining in the close-ups. It doesn't come through in the wider pictures but it will show well in real life under night lights.

Condition: expected wear to the base, a 2x4mm fleabite to one of the inner rims, some small black marks (less than 0.5mm) inside the glass from manufacture (see pictures), two handfuls of scratches to the interior of the bowl (longest 7.5 cm)
