Signed 1950s Vicke Lindstrand Kosta green 'Dark Magic' vase
BUYER COMMENT (when buying this piece and Signed and labelled purple sommerso Lindstrand vase for Kosta): 'My previous purchase arrived in perfect condition and was even better in real life!'
This was in the 1959 Kosta catalogue, but only in the more blue-gray colour that people are more familiar with. The green is a later innovation, and rarer. The last photo shows this piece with a smaller blue-gray example (which I haven't listed yet). These pieces were blown with a crooked glass-blowing pipe. This pipe was invented by master blower Bengt Heintze at Kosta to blow Lindstrand's off-centre pieces. Bengt (who blew all Lindstrand's pieces except for glasses) found that this was a difficult challenge with a normal pipe, but easy with a bent pipe which allow oblique blowing. See Master Bengt: The Glass Legend of Sweden by Hans-Olaf Lundmark.
