The video below shows the way we think Goran and Ann Warff will have wanted their window-cut pieces to be viewed - looking directly into the cut and polished window, with light behind it.  You can see it larger on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfe11xzDtI8

The cut and polished base acts as a mirror, as you can see in the close-up of the label.  If you look closely, you'll see that the first photo is also this view, but it's a little hard to see.  Compare it with the second photo, and click on them to enlarge them.  Of course, as the other photos show, it's a fascinating piece from any angle.

This is bold, innovative, glass art by a couple who achieved great things together in the 1960s.

It's like an ancient menhir of solid glass, coloured on the outside but with runes and symbols and designs cut into the outside which are visible from the inside through the cut glass window.

For those of you who are buying with an eye to investment, we think that the work of the Warffs is bound to appreciate.  They were jointly awarded the Lunning Prize - the Nobel prize of Scandinavian design - in 1968.  Sadly, they divorced in 1972.  This piece was designed in the late 60s or early 70s.  Jointly designed pieces were signed 'Warff', as this one is.

Pina and Vigier in their 2002 book, Scandinavian Glass 1930-2000: Smoke and Ice,  value a piece like this (though of unspecified size) at US$1250-1500.  This is an special price for our first monthly maildrop.  The original wooden base adds to the value.
