Edvin Ohrstrom 'Girl and Dove' 4kg Ariel vase for Orrefors

This is more wonderful than we can show you.  It's one of the absolute classic mid-century glass designs but... a challenging piece to sell on the Internet because it's incredibly hard to photograph.  You can understand when a piece has two dark colours, 4kg worth of thick crystal around layers of carved bubbles - the Ariel technique i it will be hard for a camera to cope with.  If you haven't seen this in real life, we can't really show you how beautiful it is.  In fact. we've taken vast numbers of photos without being able to capture how beautiful it is, so finally for the first picture we've used a photo provided by Orrefors.  I'm sure they know a thing or two about photographing glass.  This was in Leslie Pina's book, Fifties Glass.  No doubt she had the same problem with photos as we do. 

This piece was designed in 1937, but reintroduced in 1972 in series production.  The numbering on this piece tells us it was made in 1972 (Orrefors: A Century of Swedish Glassmaking, K Wickman Ed.)  To give you an idea of relative rarity, in that year, Orrefors made 565 pieces of Ariel glass.  Ariel requires the glass to be cooled, sandblasted or cut, then reheated and cased with more layers.  All old designs were retired in 1982.

Condition: very light wear to the base, two marks from manufacture (see closeups - 2x3mm and 2x7mm), a 9mm light scratch and a less than 0.5mm fleabite (could be from manufacture - too small to show in a picture) to the exterior
