Set of Schott for Smalandshyttan vases

I like some of the moulded vases from the 60s and 70s. Machine-made glass was starting to affect glass sales. Traditional glassmakers were trying to compete by producing more complex moulded vases. These were obviously cheaper to produce - they required less glassmaking skill - than those which were purely the work of a craftsman's eye and touch.

For these moulded pieces, the skill of the designer in coming up with the design and making the mould is what makes them art.

This is by Josef Schott, for the firm of Smalandshyttan, (Smaland being the famous glassmaking region of Sweden). Note that these are not exactly the same design. The larger vase is only moulded on two sides. If you're interested, here are some other Schott designs.

Condition: very light wear to the base, a handful of less than 0.5mm fleabites to the inner rim, a 1x2mm fleabite and a 2x2mm shallow fleck to the outer/upper rim

Large vase
Height: 16 cm (6.25 inches)
Width: 8.5x7.5 cm
Weight: 1150 g
Labelled "Smalandshyttan Sweden"
Condition: very light wear to the base, wear to the sticker, a 1x3mm fleabite to the edge of the base
